Just a general question regarding people who sailed to New Zealand.
I am unsure where this family came from in Ireland but arrived in New Zealand about 1864.
Would they sail straight from Ireland or would there be another stop over like England where their details will be recorded? Or would they sail via America?

Cheers

Suzy,
I have distant relatives who went to NZ about 1864. I do not know how they embarked but from earlier history , 1848, young girls who were being sent to Australa had to travel from Belfast, via Dublin, to Plymouth in the south of England to join a ship which had sailed from London.

Thanks for the information.  That should hopefully narrow down the search a little.  I will try Plymouth to Christchurch and see what comes up.

Hello Suzy,
Many websites will give you the Ships Passenger Lists. There were several ports your ancestors might have departed from. Some of my Irish clan left for NZ from Liverpool, others from Co Cork. Ships also left from Belfast.
If you post a surname & NZ arrival port (if you know this), I'll have a dig around for you.
Cheers, Valsgirl
