Robert Herbert 1901-1911
« on: Thursday 17 November 11 19:09 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find a location and death date for Robert Boucher Herbert, born about 1867 in Gloucester.

Robert Boucher Herbert married Charlotte Frances Chappell 6 June 1892 in St. James, Upper Edmonton.

Children.

Percy Robert                   1894 Sussex
Arthur Montague Charles   1895 Sussex
Ernest Wallace George       1897 Sussex
Frank Leslie                      1901 Surrey

After their father deserted the family the three youngest were picked up off the street and shipped to Canada in May 1908 under the Home Children label.

Charlotte is listed in the 1911 census in Seven oaks, Kent as a widow.

I am not sure if Robert was born in Gloucester or some place in Gloucestershire.
His father was John Boulbee Herbert 1831-1904, his mother was Sarah Pimble 1827-1911.

One brother was James Boulbee 1863 died in Norwich in 1903.

This is a quote from a previous researcher for this family, I have no documentation.

“Barnardos reported that the children's father was a blackguard”, drunkard and destitute" and had deserted the children”.

Hi there

I noticed someone thought he might have died in the First World war.
I was thinking he was a little old to go but my son said not unless he
was a Officer.

There is a Officer who died in 1915
Robert B. Herbert, Capt,  unit - London R T F 1915   vol 0.2 page 439

Shame about the children, hope they found a good life in Canada.

Thanks for the input.
I checked out your response and found out it that it was a Captain Robert Bingley Herbert.
I realize that his wife said that she was a widow in the 1911 census, which could have been wishful thinking.
