Samuel Shaw ..Help Please Passenger List COMPLETED
« on: Friday 18 November 11 01:48 GMT (UK) »
This one is more then a brick wall .. seems like an unclimbed mountain and hoping I might find some assistance or help please?

Trying to locate the ship , any Passenger List, the date and port of arrival for a Samuel Shaw who arrived in New Zealand about 1879.

Samuel was born in West Bromich, England on  17.02.1862.  He married Jane Richards in Invercargill on 07.04.1890.

Samuel died on the 09.02.1929 aged 66 years  in Invercargill.  The death certificate states that at the time of death he had been in New Zealand 50 years.  Given this information Samuel would only be 16 years of age when he arrived in New Zealand  around 1878 - 1880 . He might have  travelled with other family rather then on his own.  Could he have worked his passage?

Any information would be most appreciated.

Thank you

Alex G :)

There is another Samuel Shaw in Otago/Southland at that time, so perhaps there is a need for caution  ::)

He was b. 1867, admitted to Wakari School, Dunedin,  Jan 1875, parent Samuel Shaw, destination on leaving - Southland.  :o
Possibly the one who marries Jessie Thomson in 1889. ???

John .. thank you.

Samuel Shaw also had a brother Thomas Shaw born 1852 who believed at some point to have been living in Bluff.  He was some sort of Government Official .. Collector of Customs, Post Master or similar

The parents were Thomas Shaw who married Anna Pittaway .  Thomas Shaw died in Birmingham which might suggest he did not emigrate to New Zealand.

Cheers
