Do you happen to know William's parents names, if born c1900 may appear on 1901 census.

So, is there no mention of parents on his marriage certificate?

Where did you arrive at the birth date of 4 Jan 1900?
Do you have documentary evidence for this date - or is it "as remembered" by someone later in life?

You would probably get full details of both parents from his marriage certificate in 1939. I would suggest you order a transcription from a transcription agent, these are far cheaper than an official certificate. You can find marriage ref details on NSW BDM site and also services of transcription agents. If your based in the uk they will e-mail details over.
