ROYAL NAVY OFFICER RECORDS 1800'S

Hi
i have recently found out that one of my ancestors was a lieutenant in the royal navy (commissioned 3 feb 1815) Is there anywhere i might be able to find out when he joined or any shipe he might have served on. His name wad Eldred Roberts and he was born 18 Jan 1786 in St Hilary Cornwall and died 21 Feb 1835 in St Ives Cornwall. He married in 1817 to someone called Jenney. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Many Thanks

It is a bit early for individual records to be in the National Archives. You really need to use Navy Lists to follow his service. Some are online. Ones after 1810 list the ships served on. Once you have a ship's name you can check the archives again for ships logs, muster rolls and prize money books.

As far as I am aware complete collections of the Navy Lists are available at the National Maritime Museum, National Archives and RN Museum Portsmouth. Others may tell you more.
