I keep picking this up, then puting it down again.  Not the best way to get ahead, but cant find why the HALL family were at Pendle Hall Padiham 1780s

Richard HALL   Father
Wife                no name

Why where they in Lancashire, where had they come from and did parents remain there?

They appear to have been in Lancashire a lot earlier - probably the burial of Richard Seniors parents:

Burial: 18 Jul 1770 St Mary, Newchurch in Pendle, Lancashire, England
Jacob Hall, Senex
Abode: late of Pendle Hall
Occupation: Yeoman
Buried by: W Burton Curate

Burial: 14 Dec 1758 St Mary, Newchurch in Pendle, Lancashire, England
Elizabeth Hall - Wife of Jacob Hall
Buried by: William Nabbs Curate

I assume you have him (Richard jnr) on census,  where is he living?

Rosie

Hi your PM gives me a census ref  which relates to Thomas Hall (and his wife Caroline) born Edmonton.

Tracking back Thomas's marriage gives father as Richard occ bricklayer.

Christening at Edmonton
Richard Hall in 1818 and Thomas Hall in 1820 both sons of Richard and Elizabeth of Fore Street (Edmonton) occ Bricklayer

Marriage at Edmonton Richard Hall to Elizabeth Wilds 26th July 1817 - no Hall names as witnesses. No fathers name or occupation as too early for this information.

Now I am stuck - where do you have the Richard and Elizabeth Hall  (parents of Thomas and Richard) on census?

1841 census Fore St Edmonton
Thomas Hall 85 bricklayer not born in county
Elizabeth Hall 58 not born in county
Thomas H Hall 22 journeyman bn Middlesex

1851 Fore Street Edmonton
Elizabeth Hall widow 68 cottage holder (this is crossed out) bn Hertford

Presuming Elizabeth is Thomas' mother and the older Thomas could be father inlaw I can't see the connection to Lancashire but maybe I'm missing something.

Elizabeth maybe in Watton Herts in 1861 listed as lab widow.

Thank you Gibel  ;D

Durrr  ::)  I should have looked in Fore Street but I was looking for Richard.  ;D

I was trying to get the Lancashire link as well. I would think that Thomas age 85 (bn c1855) is either young Thomas's grandfather or gt uncle.

We will have to see what valnan says about the Lancashire link.

Hello and sorry for the late  return to you.

My link to Richard born 1787 came from family effects, a leather bonded item showing his date of birth and christening.
In amongst many other items a marriage certificate for Richard and Elizabeth Wilds.
As you correctly show, no witness. In fact the copy that I have, was obtained by my late Great Aunt, in 1933. she too had been trying to trace the link back.
Various searches showed the link back to Lancashire, then the discovery of their children, IGI.

Thomas born 1819/20 to Richard, above became printer, so with that link, strong suggestion, he, Thomas had created the leatherwork.

Have I got it wrong? ::)

To add to my earlier, I have most of the family from Thomas born 1819/20 to present day. Taken forever.

My hope is to keep going back, think thats what Im supposed to do.....lol

There is one of the original children that has not been mentioned in all of your kind replies. William, born 1785.......can see others may have died, relatively young .

Is the William born c 1825 of Staverton linked?
Have family information suggesting he was the nephew of Thomas....not sure which of the Thomas's.

Trust I have not further confused the issue............Dont I wish they had chosen different names or even numbers as the Americans do.

Looking through your replies, it may be that there were two HALL families at Pendle Hall during the same period?
Death of Sarah, shows parents Richard and MARY?

Oh dear, what have I started.

Thank you heaps
