Birth, death and marriage in Melbourne
« on: Thursday 24 November 11 01:02 GMT (UK) »
Ann SMEDLEY m Francis DEXTER at Sawley DBY on 2 Mar 1786. She was allegedly of Wilne and he of Castle Donnington but I reckon they fibbed. As far as I can tell their only child was Elizabeth bap. at Melbourne 15 Oct 1786.

There is the marriage of Francis DEXTER & Susannah BROUGH at Melbourne 5 Oct 1800, they then bap. Susannah & Thomas at Melbourne on 14 May 1801.

What I'm hoping to find out is:

1. Does the baptism in 1786 give any indication of the parish of Francis & Ann?

2. Was there a burial for Anne DEXTER in the period 1786-1800? If so any age?

3. Was there a burial for child Elizabeth DEXTER after 1786?

3. Was Francis DEXTER a widower when he married in 1800? Phillimore's has no extra details.

Greatfull for any assistance

Hi,

1.Elizabeths birth gives no indication of the parish.
2.no burial for ann dexter in Melbourne in those years.
3.Two Elizabeths died in 1789 in Melbourne no age given.
4.francis was single on his marriage to susannah in 1800.

Thank you very much Meercat for such a quick reply.

As is oft the case, more questions now than I have answers for.

Could I ask if you noticed in the burials if it was the usual practice of the scribe to give the parents names in that period if it was the death of a child? If so, it may indicate that the burials of the Elizabeths were of adults.

Thanks again

its very gappy  on ages and parents names in the deaths.
I think the vicar of the time didn't bother filling in the ages.
