Birth, St Giles Middlesex.
« on: Thursday 24 November 11 12:28 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if birth records with mothers name are anywhere online for St Giles? I am trying to trace the birth/mothers name of Daniel Thomas Hennessy.
According to census records he was born in St Giles around 1865. On his marriage certificate, April 1887 to Sarah Hewitt, his father is shown as Thomas Hennessy a Tailor. Daniel was also a Tailor by trade.
I have not been able to find a good match online. A possible couple on the 1881 census are Thomas (Journeyman Tailor) and Johanna (Tailoress) living St James, Westminster with a son Daniel (Journeyman Tailor) aged 19. The parents born Ireland and Daniel Westminster, Middlesex. I cannot find them on previous census although there are a couple with same names but other children and different occupations which confuses things.
In 1891 there are a Thomas and Joanna both aged 60 living in Bristol which ties in with place of Daniels marriage and three of his childrens births (other 2 born London).
There are a number of Daniel Hennessys born in area in the 1860s so unless I can find records online it will be send for a certificate and hope its the right one which could work out expensive unless lucky first time.

Birth records are not online, but some christening records are. However I cannot see one for a Daniel Hennesey around that date in the ones that are online on Ancestry from the LMA.

St Giles In The Fields registers are still with the church, & there is a copy on film at LMA. They are the only sources where you will find the baptisms from the CofE for that parish from that date range.

Usual is to order the certificates for those who fit on the BMDs from the GRO.

It's possible that someone may be able to do the lookup whilst at LMA, but expect quite a wait.

You can order the birth certificates using the information I gave you (year, quarter, district, volume and page).

There is no guarantee the these children were baptised in that year, or even at St Giles church itself.

The St Giles mentioned is a Registration District ;D

Or even in the Church of England at all.

Catholic records for London are not included in those available online.

Hi. I know this was some time ago but I’m helping my sister-in-law from Australia research her ancestry before visiting the UK next year. I’m researching Daniel Thomas Hennessy and Sarah Rebecca Hewitt and wondered if you’d managed to find Daniels birth, parents etc and get the line any further back?  Would be grateful for any hints.

GRO website gives mmn (new since original post).  Then check freebmd for marriage of the appropriate surnames - hopefully you'll find a Thomas Hennessey marrying a woman with the right surname to fit with the census rec found.  Of course marriage may not have been in England or Wales in which case this won't work.  Or mother may have been widowed which makes it more complicated.

Lots more online since 2011
