Dear fellow rootschatters,
Sorry for the longish message I am in the midst of trying to sort out the Brown family and in particular the family of George Brown, ag lab.
I think that I am getting two George Browns intertwined...
This is what I know:
My George Brown married Mary Rudd in 1809.
Their children were Israel (1810), Job (1814), Robert (1818), James (1821) , Zachariah (c.1822), Mary (1825), Samuel (c.1828) and possibly Elizabeth (1832).
He is alive in the 1841 census but dead by the 1851 census
There are two George Browns on the IGI for St Mary Walthamstow:
George Frederick baptised in 1779 - parents James and Elizabeth
George baptised in 1787 - parents Israel and Elizabeth.
I have a death certificate for George Brown dying in 1847 aged 68 which would put his YOB at 1778 and make George Frederick the likely candidate but my George's first son was Israel which would indicate that he is the son of the latter. However my George did name a later son James.
Then there is the fact that there were a few generations of Israel Browns in Walthamstow and before than in Chigwell.
The 1847 death certificate is registered by someone called Thomas Brown who I guess could be another son although he may not be.
So I am trying to find out these things:
Who were the witnesses at George's wedding. I don't suppose there is any way I can find out how old he was when married.
Is it possible to get a list of dead Browns whose burial took place at St Mary Walthamstow between 1809 and 1851. I know it is a possible tall order especially as Brown is a common name but I am counting on the fact that although in 1793 Walthamstow is described as 'a considerable village', there won't be too many Brown living there... especially as mine lived in Chapel End and Hale End.
Is anyone able to assist?
I hope I am not frightening anyone!

Bye for now
Kirk
Now I am going to transcribe all the Browns in the 1841 Walthamstow census and see what I come up with.
