G.H. Sharman - was he a showman?
« on: Sunday 27 November 11 08:51 GMT (UK) »
My great-great-grandfather’s brother John Sharman (born in 1828) was involved in building the Royal Agricultural Hall in Islington. I have found passing reference to “John Sharman’s Christmas Fair and Bazarre” held there in 1873. Also, his son George Henry Sharman (born in 1862) seems to be the GH Sharman who had a Circular Railway at the World’s Fair held in the Agricultural Hall in 1881/2. Beyond this I know nothing of George’s activities as a showman. Does anyone have any information regarding George Henry Sharman’s life in the fairground world?

Ads in the Standard in January 1882 refer to Harry Sharman's Wonderful Circular Railway

Sorry, Shaun, but I'm being thick here ... what is/was The Standard?

It was a London newspaper. You can search 19th century newspapers online via membership of your local library
