You could try this site:

http://www.gov.ns.ca/nsarm/

I don't have any relatives in Nova Scotia, but it looks like it might be a place to start.

Hi there,

This is the information I know about this family.

William Cooper, b. England and his wife Elizabeth had a daughter named Sarah Jane.  She was born Feb 16, 1820 in Halifax, according to info on her death certificate.  She married William Robertson.

William Robertson, b. Nova Scotia on June 1, 1827.  He was the son of James Robertson and his wife Mary.  James was born in Scotland.

William Robertson was a master cabinet maker and worked as a ship's carpenter when his son James William was born in 1852 in Swansea, Bristol Cnty, Ma.  William worked on the whaling vessels out of New Bedford, Ma.  William and Sarah are my ggg grandparents.  My great grandparents had a piece of furniture in their home for years that was made by William that did not have any nails in it....only pegs.  It was a desk with a china cabinet and bookcase on top of it.  My dad knew where all of the hidden compartments were that would open at a tap in a certain spot.  Unfortunately a great grandmother with senility decided that this family heirloom was ugly and gave it away when her daughter was away one day.  So sad.

I would appreciate anything you can tell me about either Sarah Jane Cooper and her family or William Robertson and his family.  Thank you for your time.

Carol,

I don't know if this is the right William Cooper, but it might be worth checking out.  If the information isn't available online, you could probably find addresses and write letters to various places.

ECO Online (free search of some of their books):
Mentions of a William Cooper in Pugwash, Nova Scotia (1849 & 1851):

Cumberland County, Nova Scotia Genealogical Society:

Transcription of 1861 census including Pugwash features a William Cooper (but doesn’t give details):

Downloadable records from Cumberland County including 1861 Census (as above):

Same website, with info on a cemetery with Coopers:

Just thought I would add this site:
http://www.afhs.ab.ca/registry/regns_census.html

It has all the available NS censuses and you might find something useful.
