Roade Cemetery/History questions
« on: Thursday 01 December 11 19:26 GMT (UK) »
I have questions concerning places in Roade where persons may have been interred in the 1880s.  Google maps photography and old maps show a St. Mary's Church in Roade.   Did that church have a graveyard in use back then?   Would there be current records listing the inhabitants of that graveyard or any other in Roade?

I am looking for the burial place of Hannah Meakins deceased in Roade, R.S.D. on 23 October 1882.  She had lived there probably since her marriage (at Roade) to husband William Meakins in 1824.

Many thanks to anyone reading and considering my questions.

Hi Again

I don't know the area, but searches show there are 3 churches in Roade:
Link > http://www.uk-web-index.co.uk/vildetails/Northamptonshire/Northampton/Roade/Churches/1/

Hannah's death is recorded on free BMD as Hardingstone V. 3b, P. 25. Though I understand Roade is part of Northampton & Hardingstone District, so she could well be buried in Roade.

Hope this is of some use.

Regards
Geoff

The registration district of Hardingstone which existed until 1924 covered the area of Northamptonshire stretching south of Northampton from the river Nene.  It included many villages including in particular Roade.

If you feel like doing a search there is an earlier thread on rootschat which discussed the various Roade churches and which ones had surviving graveyards.  I must admit I failed to find it with a quick search.

Hi Neal, did you ever get this sorted? I have access to the register for the cemetery but it doesn't have an index. If you still need the info I'd be happy to do a search.
