William GUNTHORPE
« on: Thursday 01 December 11 19:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Not sure where to post this, but feel this may be the best start.

I know William GUNTHORPE was baptised 24 Nov 1822 in Gawcott, & married Ann Easter TURVEY 30 Sep 1850 in Buckingham. After that I can find no further records of him. Not unusual with all the variants of GUNTHORPE

Another Gawcott baptism reads:

30 Oct 1853   Edward Stuckberry illegitimate son of Ann GUNTHROP of Gawcott, widow woman

The GRO index shows the marriage of an Ephraim STUCHBERRY to Ann GUNTHROP in the West Bromwich district 1854.

What I need to find out is did William die, and if so is this his widow?

This has been mentioned in passing on another thread, but feel it best to start a seperate one for it.

Thanks

Geoff

Hi again Steve

Yep, that looks like it is very likely him. Age would also match that given on marriage record. Thanks.  :)

Heywood,
Agree that is them, but  Ann's age have been recorded wrongly. Also I entered William's parents marriage date not his. Sorry  :-[

Will correct post - Thanks

Hi Geoff,

Of course the best way to find out if this is the same Ann who married both William Gunthorpe and Ephraim Stuchberry is to buy the (second) marriage certificate.  ;)

I've had no luck finding the Stuchberry family in the 1861 census - when were they said to have gone to Australia?

So ....
William and Ann were married in 1850 in Gawcott,
they moved to Warwick between 1851 and 1852,
William died there in 1852,
and by 1853 Ann was back in Buckingham (Gawcott) christening Edward
(unless she was still living in Warwickshire but just returned to Gawcott to have him christened in her church),
then once again back to Warwickshire to marry Ephraim in 1854.
 :-X

She had a busy few years.

As I was once told
"You know you are addicted to FH when you ask for a death certificate as an Xmas pressie"  ;D

Thanks for all that info Steve. There are some on-line trees that claim the they went to Australia c1854/55. But some also claim they had children born in UK after that date.  :-\

I am guessing, that if it is the same Ann, she returned home to Gawcott, to be with her family for the birth.

As usual, go by your own research if those trees are dubious and without verification.    I've seen one, and it's a bit wild, to say the least. :o

Merry Xmas you addict. ;D ;D

Hey Geoff, don't forget to put the marriage certificate on the Chrissy list - it should tell you Ann's maiden surname and father's name, just so you can be 100% sure.   :)
