Sawyer Lambourn 1911 census
« on: Friday 02 December 11 22:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have a Mary Eliza Sawyer aged 30 (I think) married to Edward Albert Holmes aged 49 in 1912 Hungerford.  Her father is listed as Robert Sawyer, Profession Shepherd.  Mary & Robert have listed their address as Lambourn Woodlands Lambourn.  I can't find them on the 1901 census and wondered if anyone would be able to see them on the 1911 census.

Regards
Louise

Hi Louise

1911 census lookups are not permitted on Rootschat for reasons covered elsewhere on the site.

Have you already found Mary Eliza in 1891? She is enumerated as aged 7 and born Bright Waltham, Berks - living in Weston Village, Welford, Berks with father Robert (40, shepherd, b Chaddleworth Berks) and mother Mary A (39, b Boxford Berks) and several siblings.

1891 census ref: RG12/970/136/2.
Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)
London: Pierce
Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

Thanks for that, I didn't realise I couldn't request 1911 census look ups, oops!

I had seen that family but I find it really difficult to be absolutely sure, particularly as shepherds can travel about a bit.  Think I may have to make an assumption and go with that one.

Many thanks for the advise, much appreciated.

You can look up the 1911 index free -RootsChat has tips on how to search the index

There is a mary Eliza of abt correct age -she is in an institution not a household
May be worth taking a look

Thanks, I'm off to get some tips to use the 1911 census summary books :)  Also saw the SAGER 1901 family.  It certainly doesn't make things easy when the name is sawyer, written as sayer and transcribed as sager

Hello,
I can't help at the moment but if you eventually find that your Robert is in any way connected to a Thomas Sayer 1814 and Eliza unknown of Chaddleworth then I have some information on the forward family of son Isaac 1849 which I would be happy to share.
