what's a Gedcom file and how do you do one??

Thanks Bob, I had a look and I think I understand it, but for Gawds sake don't ask me any questions about it yet!!  I'll have to go back to it a couple of times before it sinks in.  So If I get it right, I need one of those programmes to put all the information in and it will automatically become a GEDCOM file?   Is that right??  Or have I got it all backaswards?   I did warn you I was a complete dummy at this.

Hi Barbara,

it doesn't "automatically" become a GEDCOM file, but most family history programs have the facility to create GEDCOMs from the data you enter, and to read other GEDCOMs and add them to your data.

Just click on the link Free RootsChat Webspace at the very bottom of the page to sign up. You are free to use tracking links as long as they do not adverts/links for other sites.
