A Business in Bathgate - Russells
« on: Thursday 08 December 11 09:39 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone who has known Bathgate since the 1950s let me know if there is still a Company called Russells of Bathgate (a haulage company) in existence. If there is not, I'd like to know how I can find out what became of the family that I understand owned it.
In the 1950s I was close to two brothers, sons of the owner and I'm trying to locate them.
I have a photo of one of their trucks but I cannot display it here as it was from another site.

Thanks,

James.

Hello James

I know nothing about Bathgate or transport, however, the link below seems to indicate that the company no longer exists.  Regards,  Steve  :)

The link refers to a brother running Cartyne Transport.  Link below has his name (John) on the front page top right.  Shall leave you to it.

Hi James,

My grandfather was a driver for Russell of Bathgate in the late fifties/early sixties.  The company doesn't exist in Bathgate as a separate entity anymore as it was bought over in the sixties - although I think the purple Russell lorries going about today are connected to the same family.

A search of the West Lothian Courier index (available here http://webpac.westlothian.gov.uk/#focus) shows that William Russell the founder of the Bathgate company died in the late seventies.

Best wishes

Piglet,

Thank you.  I had come across the http://www.trucknetuk.com/ site a little earlier - I saw the truck which was what I remembered from way back.
I may well now have a contact thanks to your second url and have contacted them to see if I'm on the right track.

Thanks again,

James.

Rockford, thank you.

I think a John Russell may have taken over after his father passed on. I'm checking. Thanks for the lead.
