thank you so much. I am new to this so apologise if I do not get the reply quite right.
The Thomas Thomas I am looking for died aged 75/76.So thank you for identifying him.
This will hopefully help me find more information.
Thomas was born Llanwonno abt 1818. His wife Mary died between the 1841/51 census and he remarried Sarah Jenkins(nee Thomas) in 1878.
He had 2 son Evan b.1843 and William.b.1840 both born Llanwonno. They were bought up by their Uncle Evan Lewis ,a blacksmith, living Pleasant Hill. My direct link is through Evan, who unfortunately disappears after the 1881 census, though is not marked deceased on the childrens subsequent marriages.
Thanks again both of you.
Jane :)

Hello Jane  :)

... My direct link is through Evan, who unfortunately disappears after the 1881 census, though is not marked deceased on the childrens subsequent marriages.

On 1891, Evan's wife Mary is at 31 Fitzhamon Embankment, Riverside, Cardiff, and recorded as Married, but it could have been an error.

but by 1900 she is a Widow at Cross Farm, llanedeyrn, Cardiff

As she was with Evan in 1881 in Ystradyfodwg, have you checked for deaths in Pontypridd district 1881-91? I guess it's more likely than Cardiff.

Kind Regards
Morgan

thanks.those are the correct census entries, but the name is too frequent to identify the correct death.Mary never lived with Evan again, dying in Partridge road, Cardiff in 1931.For his daughters wedding in 1901 on the cert he is shown as gentleman,in 1903 on another marriage cert as retired miner. In 1906 on the certificate of a daughter he did not get on with he is shown as deceased. Anyones guess is as good as anyone elses. I only found that the father Thomas was alive when I found a will with his name in it. Previously he disappeared in the 1840's and I thought that he had died earlier.Hopefully I will eventually find a cousin several times removed who will have some information. He must have done something wrong as even his own brother did not mention him.
thanks :)

Thank you for your message.I would love to see the photograph and the inscription.I dont speak Welsh but I have a cousin ,now in Australia, who will translate it for me.
I am very interested to see what it says, as it may help me to solve some of the family relationships.
Thanks again
Jane
