Can I request a lookup?
« on: Sunday 11 December 11 18:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have two lookup requests, both for FHL films. Am I allowed to post the details?
Getting to my nearest centre would involve me taking a day off work, two bus journeys each way and would take over an hour and a half, each way.  Last time I did this I got there and it was closed, although I had been told by phone it would be open, most frustrating.
If a lookup is possible I can give the full details.
Cheers

John

Is this related to your recent query on the Dublin board ?

  FHL records

If it's civil records you are interested it might be simpler, and quicker, just to order the relevant research cert(s) ?
(I dont think anybody is offering lookups of any Co. Monaghan records  in a FamilySearch Centre at the moment)

Not sure about LDS libraries in Monaghan area but I know most of them in Northern Ireland do not have much in the way of these films and they usually have to be ordered.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Shane, Yes, I have now narrowed the area down so posted to a more appropriate board.

Thanks for the advice, think I will save myself a load of bother and order the paperwork!

Cheers and thanks for your help

Shane,
Further to your reply, I have gone on-line to the GRO Ireland but there on-line certificate service only goes back to 1922. I am presuming that this is the wrong place to be. How do I go about ordering research certs, this is new to me.
Thanks again for your time and help.

You can order the historic certs by post from the GRO. If you provide the references from the BMD Index, and ask for research certs then  each one will cost €4.

see : Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon

Why not post names etc...?
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Worth a try!

Solomon SMYTH married Bridget May (McAleese?) in 1888 at Ballybay, Co Monaghan.
I am trying to find out his fathers name to establish a link to my gggf Charles SMYTH.
