John Joseph Bonner
« on: Monday 12 December 11 06:37 GMT (UK) »
My GGG grandfather was John Joseph Bonner. I believe from Dartmoor? He married a Jane. (children ; Frances Amelia, Mary Jane, Ralph, John Joseph, Thomas Samuel) He was an armed pensioner guard and came to Western Australia. I found Jane died in 1878 here in WA, However I cannot find any records of his death here? I have also not been able to find records of him in Dartmoor. Does anyone have any ideas how I can trace him?
Thank you

Hi, too little information to be able to do a search for you, have you any other details? approx birth date, parents, where in Donegal he was born etc.

The only Dartmoor I am familiar with is in England, I have never heard the name associated with Donegal or anywhere else in Ireland for that matter.

(Realise must be Dartmoor, Victoria, Australia you are talking about!)

Hi. I believe he was born Dartmoor England (this is what is written on Thomas Samuel Bonner's second marriage certificate). His son Thomas Samuel Bonner was born in Dartmoor approximately 1855, came to western australia with his family when he was about 4 years old. Frances Amelia Bonner was born around 1848, Mary Jane Bonner around 1851, John Joseph Bonner jnr 1853, Ralph was born in western australia.
I believe that John Joseph Bonner was in the 69th regiment of foot. And came to australia as a armed pensioner guard. So frustrating as I just don't know where to find him. Thank you so much for responding though.

In the Kew archives it says John Bonner was discharged age 32 in 1852. Which would make his year of birth around 1820.. In this record it says 69th regiment of foot and that he was born Westmeath, Athlone.. But his son Thomas Samuel bonner was born dartmoor in england about 1855. His siblings Mary Jane bonner born about 1851, Frances Amelia Bonner about 1848, John Joseph Bonner about 1853, and Ralph was born in Western Australia.

If John Bonnar was born c1820 in Athlone, County Westmeath what is the connection to County Donegal?
