PAF5 Question please
« on: Tuesday 13 December 11 21:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I have been using PAF5, and have now got the hang of it (!) I have a fair amount of people on so far and was mucking about earlier and if I download my Ancestry tree to a Gedfile, and then import the Gedfile into PAF5, will I end up with duplicate people or would the people I have already put on PAF be overwritten?  Has anyone done this? or should I just continue imputting myself?  Any ideas gratefully receivied!

Thanks  :)

Hello,

I'm afraid that my PAF programme is on my other pc with my daughter so am replying from memory.

I believe it is possible to tell PAF to ignore duplicates or overwrite with what you bring in, look in their help to see how it is done. The thing to know is which is the most up to date/complete tree. I hope for your sake that you haven't a mix of some ancestors more modern on-line and some more modern on your PAF.

Whatever you do, create a second, duplicate, tree on your pc in PAF BEFORE importing,  usually  by creating a back-up. You can then muck about to your heart's content  :D

cheers, falcybe :)

Thanks, what I have done is gone onto my husband's laptop and downloaded PAF again and imported tree from Ancestry but I really didnt like the way it transferred the records so deleted it and will manually input what I want. Longer I know but at least it will be how I want it!

Its true. There are no shortcuts in family history! Heyho
