Trying to find my relatives in Co Donegal
« on: Saturday 17 December 11 20:15 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find out if I have any relatives left in Ireland after my gg grandparents, Anthony Dunnion and Mary Duffy from Clondavaddog Parish in County Donegal, left in 1860 to come to New Jersey in the usa. Any suggestions on how to go about that? . They were married there in 1859. Thanks for any help!

Did their marriage record include any details of their parents ?

If you know the denomination, parish and some details on their parents you could try searching for siblings - but it's more difficult tracing lines forward unless you already have some clues, as you have to estimate dates of marriage etc, people moved away from home either for work or when they married making them difficult to follow.

Dunnion is not a common surname, so another possible line of research might be to try and work back from the Dunnion individuals listed on the 1901 census (just 75 - majority in Donegal), to see if any might link in with your ancestors - see : Dunnion - 1901

see : Introduction to Irish Records

Welcome to Rootschat, deborahd.

Found this similar query on another site which might be yours (if not a person to contact)- http://www.cousinconnect.com/d/a/281658

Marriage details (which I think you already have) listed here- http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/clondavaddogmarrg.htm
Lots of Duffys and a few Dunnion deaths listed on this part of same site (townlands are given)-

Here's a full list of records for Clondavaddog Parish on the site to look through-

Hi, unfortunately for your purposes parents names were not included in the marriage record for Anthony and Mary, If they stuck to Irish naming conventions (fairly common in the 19C) then their first son would have been named for his paternal grandfather, this could be checked against the Griffith records above, this may lead to the finding of siblings who may be able to confirm the connection
