Hammond family of Danbury
« on: Sunday 18 December 11 03:02 GMT (UK) »
Looking for John Hammond born circa 1786 Clare or Clave, Suffolk, married to Sarah ? (born about 1790 Danbury)...who lived in Danbury 1841....cannot find them on that census with daughter Emma Hammond, born Danbury 1829.
Found John and Sarah on 1851 Census in Danbury Essex.

They seem rather old to have a 14 year old at 65....perhaps she is the youngest of their children?

Anyone connected to this family?    BTW Emma married Abraham Cass May 15, 1852 in Danbury.
Thank you so much. Joker

Is them in 1841?

HO107 piece 325 folio 6 page 6

John Hammond, 50, Painter, not b in County
Sarah Hammond, 50, b in County
Emma Hammond, 14, b in  County
Charles Wilkins, 15, Ag Lab, not b in County

Address, Berkely Cottage, Danbury.

Sarah would have been about 38/40 yrs old when Emma was born. Quite possible especially if she was the one of the younger children of a large family.

Have you got the burial for John Hammond 18 May 1861, St John the Baptist, Danbury aged 75? And Sarah 28 April 1861, same place aged 72?

Sue

To Suffolk Sue and Southend Sue: Thank you for your quick replies.  Seems like both could be right....the 1841 Census does show John as a Painter as he was on further census...and yet....the Baptism in 1827...with John as Bricklayer...the names are correct, but only John's occupation was wrong...but that could very well happen....people do change  jobs for whatever reason.  Wonder if he was a bricklayer for the baptisms of Henry, Joseph and Thomas?  That would confirm it if one of them showed him as a painter, wouldn't it?

Also thanks for the death details for John and Sarah...I have no other information on them regarding their passing.  I must pursue these boys, to see where they lead us (Thomas, Henry and Joseph).
Thank you both again.  I appreciate your help.

Thank you Suffolk Sue, who tells me that on one of their children, John Hammond is shown as both bricklayer and Painter. YES!!!!!  Sure gives us the right connection.   Thank you so much.

Wonder who Sarah was prior to marrying John Hammond?  Never stops, does it?
Anyways, thank you so much for your help.
