On the 26/02/1916 the S S Dido was sunk just off the Humber estuary when she was hit by a mine laid by the German U Boat UC7 with the loss of 28 of her crew. For the past 95 years  10 of her crew have laid in unmarked graves in 2 Hull cemeteries. But no longer, They will be marked in due coarse with headstones by the CWGC. If any one requirers any information as to the names of the crew who's resting places have now been located then please contact me.  :)

Hello Pete

I'm a volunteer recording the graves of those who fell in the service of their country, The War Graves Photographic Project. I would be most grateful if you could let me know when these graves are in place so they can be added to those all ready recorded.

It will be sometime before we are able to erect the new headstones. I will be up in Hull on the 10/11th January to temporary mark the graves and get confirmation of the buriels then we will be able to order the headstones.

Hello Pete,
I've just found this site and your thread as I have a specific interest in the Dido.
My Great Grandfather George Skipworth died when the Dido was sunk.

Do you know when the CWWG headstones are to be installed?
Are you likely to visit the cemetery once they are in place?
Might you be able to post up some photos of the headstones if you are heading up to Hull?
