In the mean time - Anc already have a 1940 Census Substitute -   they have compiled a collection of more than 2,000 city and county directories ranging from 1935 to 1945. The predecessors of today's phone book, directories typically list  ancestor's name, occupation, and home and work address, as well as helpful information about their neighborhood.
