Greetings to all,

I need your help identifying the village and parish where Robert Wallace was from on the attached Baptism record for the Ayrshire county.

Kind regards,

"late in Wynd now in Orchard". The christening took place in Mauchline, so these places must be there, otherwise a different parish would have been mentioned.

Graham.

The NLS have many excellent maps on their sit:
http://maps.nls.uk/

You may be able to locate "Wynd" and "Orchard" on one of these. I have to go out now but will have a look for these places later if you haven't already managed to find them.

This is a good map but I can't see either of those places on it:
http://maps.nls.uk/joins/view/?rsid=74400653&sid=74400657&mid=723&pdesc=Bottom section
Closest is Ochiltree S of Mauchline.  :-\
Another good map, but a little later:
http://maps.nls.uk/joins/view/?rsid=74400286&sid=74400286&mid=649&pdesc=Left side

I am also wondering if the place name might be Wyndn?? rather than Wynd now?  :-\

seems that there was an Orchard Street in Galston and I may have found someone of interest in the Pigot Directory!

That's quite a coincidence Elinga.  ;) I suppose there could be a "St" hidden in the fold of the register.

The baptism is 1793 and the directory is dated 1837, so I'm not sure how that all works out date wise. (Of course it may be that the Robert Wallace, Stonemason, Orchard St, is the' legitimate' son of the above Robert Wallace married man, if it is not THE Robert Wallace.  ;))

thats the fun with this family tree stuff...............
on familysearch I  also found a marriage in Kilmarnock for a Robert Wallace to Ann Armour 19 JUL 1793  .
in Scotlandspeople 1881 census there is also Robert aged 3   of Galston   (/AYR   593/00 008/00 018), but didnt have enough credits to check it out :-(
good luck.
