Gurnell long shot
« on: Thursday 22 December 11 11:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have a post card/photo from some cousins in South Africa date 1967 so its quite old. They are called Alan ( Mac)  and Ella almost certainly Gurnell I do not know if they married in the UK or SA but I can find no marriage  for them in the UK.
They were both born around 1910 /25 in the UK and moved to SA, he was involved in the mining of gold. there is an address on the card which I do not understand so maybe someone can help.

I know this is a very long shot with little info but I am at a very large brick wall in the UK so I thought I would try working backwards. I have attached the photo on the front of the card and also the top of the back of the card.
Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks ShaunJ
I had not considered that combinationElla Mary Gurnell is a distant cousin so to the people that the post card was addressed to she would still be a cousin but a lot closer as they were my Grandparents. I will have to check this out.

Thanks again     Steve

There are a number of passenger list records showing a  Mr and Mrs G Pinder, with UK address in Scunthorpe area, travelling to and from South Africa.

Ancestry has the UK incoming lists and Findmypast has the UK outgoings.

Their full names are entered in the manifest of the Dunottar Castle arriving London in October 1953.

Returning to Cape Town on the Winchester Castle in January 1954 it's Mr G Pinder and Mrs Pinder.
