The Quaker's of Mountmellick - a book?- COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 11 May 05 11:09 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have found a website that details several prominent Quaker families in Mountmellick and quotes the source as page 31 - 38 of The Quaker's of Mountmellick.

Does anyone know where I can obtain a copy?

Thanks

Hi Wendy
Just got from holiday and my washing machine is broken!!!!!!

I will take the book with me to the Laundrette this evening (I've finished Harry Potter now) and let you know what I find later.

PS Fingers crossed it will have Bells in - it didn't have what I wanted it in!!!!!!

Hi Wendy
There is a list of surnames (and no further information about them) which includes Bell.  The list is of Quaker surnames taken from the burial records of the Mountmellick Monthly meetings and date from the 1650's to the 1860's.  So sorry no individual dates, forenames etc.

There are also 2 lists of names :
1.  Pupils in the Quaker Provincial Scool Mountmellick 1786 to 1886.  So no Bell's listed.
2. Mountmellick as a girls school 1855 to 1886
1859 Hannah Jane Bell
1879 Emily H D Bell

Hope this of some use to you ?

Best wishes

Dear Anne-Marie,
Thanks for that info, the girls you listed are a bit past the date of my family being there but who knows, they could be related.
Too bad you didn't get the info you were after.
I hate getting excited about something and then the big letdown so I hope something else will come up for you.
I think I have other families at Mountmellick but have to check through my records - flat out at the moment but will talk to you again if that's OK.
Thanks heaps from Wendy

Hello Ann Marie,

long time no talk !!
hope you enjoyed the Quakers book.
would it be possible to check the name of Paine, please.
The name, I think, is from the Mountmellick area of Laois and we are trying to establish, when and where.
Thanks a bunch,
Jack :)
