Does anyone know when someone in America is adopted, is their birth name, (ie father's surname), changed to the adoptive father's surname on the birth index.

Not sure what happened to my reply- but since the child was born in 1960 and adopted about 10 years later (?) then it's possible the original surname was kept.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for
some time
many years!
