Query Procter/Stockdale Marriage 1801
« on: Wednesday 11 May 05 13:45 BST (UK) »
Thanks for looking

I believed that

William Procter m Elizabeth Yates 08/02/1803 St Nicholas Liverpool (so IGI says)

but always wondered why Mary had the middle name of Stockdale

Elizabeth 09/05/1810
Margaret 18/01/1811
William Sands 23/04/1812
this is the one          Mary Stockdale 24/10/1814 (she marries missing vet from previous thread)
Thomas George 1817

then I was trolling around british origins and found this

1801   PROCTER    WM    STOCKDALE    ELZ    CATON    LANCASHIRE

right place , could it be he married twice? quite a gap between marriage and first child?

Can anyone help me confirm or deny either of these marriages please?

Libby with a sore head????????? ;D

Hi Libby,

I can only comment on the middle name, as I have come across a few in my own research.

It could be that it was the mothers maiden name or even the name of a well off relative who might hopefully be then be remembered in the will. I am sure there would be other suggestions  ;D

I also had a chap who married twice with both Wifes having the same first name which got me very confused  :-\

It could be that he may did marry twice, you will have to try and look for a Death or an extra Marriage.

Sarah :)

Hi, you made mention of "William Sands 23/04/1812" in your post.  I'm trying to trace the Sands line and wondered if you have further information about William?

Oh, sorry. I just saw your post saying "William Sands 23/04/1812" and assumed his surname was "Sands".

well blow me down!!! Thank you so much Claire, this is a real turn up for the books. I am gob smacked for 2 reasons 1, that he could have married twice and 2, because he was a mariner!!!
All other legs of my family tree are littered with Mariners, I have them coming out of my ears and this was one leg that had none....... until now. Brilliant
Thank you so much, I shall have to try and see if any children came from the first marriage and also what happened to Elizabeth Stockdale
