When and where was Thomas SALE born?

I am due to visit Hertfordshire archives tomorrow and need some help so I can get the most from my visit.

I need to find out when and where Thomas Sale was born so I can go back a further generation.  I am sure his marriage was Thomas Sale of Ardeley, Mary Wright of Ardeley, Ardeley, 14 Apr 1734 and for some reason I have a possible baptism of

1709 – 1 Jan in Barley, Herts to parents Richard and Sarah
1711 – 27 Jan at Cottered, Herts to parents Thomas Searle and Alice How

I have searched on the Herts records data base to find a marriage for Thomas Searle and Alice but the closest I can find is Thomas Sell, Alice Wells, Cheshunt, 10 May 1696 which I am unsure about .

Would anyone else have any more details or suggestions?

Thanks, I was at the records office on Friday and am assuming that Thomas Sales parents were Thomas Searle and Alice How as this is the closest match I can find.

I noticed on Thomas Sales baptism that it said the father was Thomas Seale alias 'How?' - not sure what this means but I am assuming we are talking about the same family

You might try Buckinghamshire.  There was a family called Sale that lived for several hundred years in Whelpley Hill, in the parish of Chesham. Whelpley Hill is right on the Bucks/Herts border.
