There are two places that you can get a death certificate in England.  One is at the GRO - www.gro.gov.uk - and the other would be the Register Office in the place where the death was registered.

The GRO will search for you, but you will need to give them a date and place of death.

P.S. There is a Francis Margaret Dignam who was born 2 Nov 1924, and died in Manchester in Aug 1995.

The GRO ref for that would be Manchester, Lancashire, Register Number G45B, District 0061G, Entry Number 111.

RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.

Hi,

This looks like Margaret's death registration (certificates are not available on line but can be ordered from GRO):

Margaret Frances Dignam     Manchester    August 1995   0061G  G45B  111  895

(date of birth  2 November 1924)

To order a copy:

www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Wills are not online but this link gives information about ordering copies/searches:

Hi,

There's a death registration for a Christopher Dignam  June 1989, Manchester,  vol 38, pg 810, reg no 689.

Date of birth 25th February 1920

I can't find a Catherine Poulsen death registration that fits with a birth 1919.   :-\

Death certificates will give the last address for the person, which might be the place to start your search for a burial or cremation.  Those details are not given on English death certs.

Manchester City Council has an online burial records site (I don't think it has complete coverage) for the cemeteries they run. Looking at it there are a few Dignams listed, including Christopher, buried at Philips Park 20 June 1989.

I can check the probate calendars at the Principal Registry next time I go. (I've been trying to get there since before Christmas and haven't quite made it yet)
