READING
« on: Tuesday 10 January 12 03:43 GMT (UK) »
Are there any Reading family researchers who would like to compare notes?  I've hit a (yet another) brick wall.  Many thanks - Pat

Hi Pat

Why don't you post the deatils of your brick wall (if you see what I mean)?

Someone may be able to help.

Thank you, Heather and Ray, for your replies.  I should have said Reading Family, not just Reading, as my brick wall is John Reading, father of Priscilla.  Priscilla married William England in 1840 in Bierton, Bucks.  She lived at Massenden and her father, John Reading, was a labourer.  I have searched throughout Bucks for the Readings but to no avail so thought I would try Herts. as I know the boundary changed somewhat over the years.  Many thanks for any advice you can send my way!
Best wishes,
Pat in Canada

Just checked my notes again.  I have the baptism of a John Reading (father - John) in St. Alban-St Peter, Herts in 1792.  Also, the correct date of the marriage of Priscilla Reading and William England in Bierton, Bucks is 1842, not 1840.  I did find a John Reading in the 1841 census but he lived in Walton, Bucks.  It could be the right person, I suppose, as Walton is fairly close to Bierton.
Thanks -
Pat

Hi Pat

(Amended)

You did mean Missenden not MAssenden?
Missenden is in Bucks, as is Aylesbury. (Not heard of MASSENDEN - Anyone?)

Baptised 1792 means he could be born a bit earlier

For your notes ............. 1841 census

In Aylesbury (VERY close to Bierton)

Hello Ray,
Many thanks for your reply and the tips.  I just took another look at Priscilla Reading's marriage cert and it does indeed say that she and her groom, William Charles England, lived at "Masendon."  Don't know where I got Missenden from!  The date of the marriage was 19 July 1842 and the hand-writing is rather difficult to read.  Priscilla's father was John Reading, a laborer.

Are the two entries for John Reading that you sent from the 1841 census?  I will search for them on Ancestry.

Thank you again for your help - it is much appreciated!
