Hi Phil,

Many thanks indeed for all that info! This is very exciting... :)

I will print it all off...and try to make some sense of it all.

Best Wishes, Romilly.

Here's the other two:

22nd October 1820, christening of James, son of William and Amelia Pattenden. Abode East Grinstead. Father's occupation Farmer.

12th September 1830, christening of Thomas son of William and Amelia Pattenden. Abode East Grinstead. Father's occupation Farmer.

Can I put the fiche reader back in it's pile of dust on top of the wardrobe now?

My last dig in the vaults  :D

I won't have the burial record for Amelia in June Qu. 1869, as she will be in the 2nd volume, assuming she was buried at St Swithuns. I do know that they have a copy of it at the SFHG Library.

There are 3 William Pattenden deaths on Free BMD, post-1851, pre-1866 when ages are added, in East Grinstead.

The first (March Qu. 1852) was buried at St Swithuns on 2nd April 1852, aged 66. Abode East Grinstead Common.

The second (June Qu. 1855) doesn't appear on the St Swithuns register, so may be buried in Lingfield etc.

The third (March Qu. 1859) was buried on 9th February 1859, aged 5 months.

Hi,

I can't find a detailed record of Amelia's burial but probably her death record is the June qtr 1869, East Grinstead, Vol 2b, Page 74.   She's 78 years old, which ties up with the censuses nicely.

I found a possible christening which could explain the confusion of her correct christian name. (Mildred? Amelia? or other variation?)

On the England and Wales Christening records 1530-1906:-
Mille Dearling, daughter of William and Mary Dearling, 10.10.1790 at Horne, Surrey.

Best wishes HL

Many thanks Forester and Hampshire Lass for all the help. :)

I'm trying to record all of this in some sort of coherant order(!)

As you say, HL, 'Mille/Millie' could be an abbreviation or other form of either Mildred or Amelia...(I wonder if it was an earlier form of either of those names?)

Romilly.

Hi Romilly, the transcription of the baptism does say Mille but it may have started life in 1790 as Millie. If you google Millie, it does seem to be a version of Mildred and Amelia, so I think that's her.   :)
Best wishes HL
