Still looking for Eliza Wilson from Writtle, born 1844.


Census 1851 with parents in Writtle
Census 1861?
Census 1871 with parents Thomas and Rebecca in Writtle
Census 1881 at Wilcott Manor House, Wilcott Wiltshire (housemaid)
Census 1891 in London? working for William and Eliza Edwards? Can anyone confirm this, is her age about 47?
Census 1901?



did she marry at all? Unmarried in 1881 and still unmarried in 1891 if that's her.

If she was still alive in 1901/1911 it may be possible to find her death. Will be difficult anyway, since Eliza Wilson is such a common name.

I have found a William G Edwards & Eliza Edwards (wife) 43 on the 1891CR living in Kensington.  It looks like Eliza's maiden name was Wilson but she was born in Marylebone - her mother Elizabeth WILSON, is living with them in Kensington & is clearly recorded as her mother.  So that is almost certainly not your Eliza.

I have found this marriage entry on FreeBMD
Mar Qtr 1883 Chelmsford Reg Dist Ref: 4a/316, which I think you will find incs Writtle.  As they are the only 2 names on that ref then it might be safe to assume they married each other.

Trouble is at a quick glance I cant find them on a CR after that date.  Could she have gone home to marry?  Perhaps someone will be able to find them for you & see if she is your Eliza.

ps.  This could be her in 1861

Edmonton, Middx:  Eliza WILSON serv/unmarried 18 (1843) recorded as born Essex, Risley.   Working for a Rebecca S Kirkpatrick 63.

Chuck in the Essex accent & that could have been Writtle - I certainly can't think of a village with that name in Essex but I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong
