Hi David,
I agree with you in your conclusions. There are a number of huge leaps made in the trees.
If the 15 year old son of the local lord made a girl pregnant, so what?
The online trees suggest that John who married in Cornwall had a son Nicholas in 1596 at St Just in Roseland. The trees ignore an earlier son Mychell (bap 1592), plus later children Phillip, Margaret, Martin, Jone, and Dyonis all in St Just. The marriage of John and Ellinor occured in Kilkhampton, a very long way from St Just. Why would they travel all that way back and forth?
The trees then suggest the son Nicholas moved to Redruth and had a family. However there is a much better match for him in St Just with a local girl and a family there. I have been unable to get any evidence other than the name Nicholas from the people who setup the online trees to support their ideas.
In addition I notice from the list of Sr Nicholas' children you supplied that there were 9 (plus John = 10) in all. Only Oliver, the second Thomas, Ann, Judeth and Catherine were mentined in the WILL. John, Agnes, Isabel, Thomas and Elizabeth, were not, but they don't appear in the burial records that Bunnygirl sent through in a later reply to your last. I wonder why?
If you are interetsed in the Will of Sir Nicholas I found it in the Virginia Magazine of History & Biography Vol 26. I downlaoded a PDF but now cant access the site again. I could send you a copy through private mail if you are interested.
Thanks again.
