Could someone help with tracing a Grace Porteous  b 1826c Wamphray , Dumfrieshire, parents James Porteous and Grace Henderson. I have found a Grace Porteous in Toronto in 1851 ,and a death in 1857.in Toronto. But can`t connect to parents. Can`t find her in 1841 census in Scotland ,so I think she may have emigrated but not sure where.
Any help would be gratefully received
Thanks

Hi boston,

Sounds like you don't have a passenger list for Grace coming to Canada. I suspect this travel would have been after 1841 since she would only have been abt 15 yrs old at that time. She likely would have been in 1841 Scot census, rather than Canadian. I suspect she came to Canada between the 41 & 51 census if it is indeed her in the Toronto census. The passenger list many times has the place name of destination and closest relative. The incoming passenger lists at the Canadian national archive only goes back to 1865, I'm not sure about outgoing passenger lists in UK? Something to check.
