Hardwicke reform school
« on: Tuesday 17 January 12 21:23 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if anyone had a picture of Harwicke reform school.  I have gone on their web site, but there is no pictures of it.  1901 my grandfather was there at the age of 17 years.
Thank you.

Hi Pepa

I did some research with another Rootschatter some years ago and we did come across a photo of the school. I visited the site but sadly there is nothing left to see now, as it was demolished some years ago.

I will see whether I can contact my Aussie friend for you.

What was your relative's name, by the way?

Meanwhile I will move your request to the correct board.

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi

There is an article with photographs, about the Reformatory in a book entitled Ottaker's Local History Series Gloucestershire Compiled by Chris Fletcher.  ISBN 0 7524 2281 2.  It has a picture of the Superintendent standing in front of the building c. 1900.  The article describes the setting up of the Reformatory and how the inmates spent their days.    I don't know whether the book is still being published as it dates back to 2002 but it may be available on book selling websites.

The article was written as an entry for a competition run by Ottakar's book shop, when local people could write about various places and events in Gloucestershire.  I have a copy of the book as an article I wrote appeared in it.

Hello, I realise this is from a while ago but if your still around Arranroots could you please let me know if you still have this photo of Hardwicke. I have just found out my G Grandfather was there in 1875.
