David Goldie, a Scottish miner in Durham
« on: Thursday 19 January 12 17:02 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the family of David Goldie, my uncle, who left Auchinleck, Ayrshire, Scotland to work in Durham.    He was born around 1896.   There is a hole in my family tree and I would be so grateful for any help to fill it.

Sometimes Goldie in Ayrshire is spelled as it's pronounced, Goudie.

Skoosh.

So it is Skoosh but there is also a name Goudie which is distinct from Goldie.    Thanks for taking the trouble to reply.  I can't believe how kind folk are to offer their help.
 Thanks you so much.

Jeanette, just checked Black's Surnames which gives Goudie as a variant of Goldie. The names were commonest in Ayrshire & Lanarkshire and also found in Shetland, where there was also a Goldilock in 1623 and a Goudielock in Glasgow, a printer, in 1908. Where the Three Bears fit in I couldn't hazard a guess, but all that glisters is not Gold/Goud, take your pick.

Skoosh.

Hi Skoosh

The Ayrshire/Lanarkshire connection ties in with my family history.    They were all coal miners, some time miner and, as you would expect, not long lived.

So where are the three bears?   I suspect they have gone walkabout.    Will need to get my Aussie connections to check them out!

So clever Skoosh.
