Welcome to RootsChat
His birth was registered in the  Lanchester district Dec ¼ 1912 10a 569, but he is only named as Harold Reay.   Do you have his birth certificate? If his birth certificate only shows Harold as his forename, then he would have added Briggs later.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

If the surname Briggs does not appear in your research - it may have been the surname of an unconnected person - a friend or neighbour.

In my paternal tree, I have 2 females one with the middle name of Bullock and the other with the middle name McCormick

Neither surname is within the family.

My grandmother had the middle name of Jackson - again - there are no Jacksons in the family

While researching my family I came across a marriage, in Sunderland, for an Edwin Mapstone Liddle, Mapstone was  the married surname of his aunt (his mother's sister) added as a middle name.

CaroleW, Love your cat by the way!! Thank you for your reply.  I was also thinking along those lines only because most of my ancestors were miners and the mining villages were like family.  I have come across several census where many of my ancestors are with a family named Briggs, so you could be right?
