Whereabouts of L/Cpl Goffin in 1901?
« on: Saturday 21 January 12 19:44 GMT (UK) »
The 1911 Census shows L/Cpl Frederick Goffin, Lincolnshire Regiment, in Married Quarters at the Regimental Depot (Lincoln) with his wife and children.
I also have him on the 1891 Census, but cannot find him on the 1901. Could he have been serving abroad ? If so where ? His D-O-B is 1874 in Great Yarmouth.
Any help gratetfully received.

The only F Goffin I can find in the Boer War medal rolls was 5560 Corporal F Goffin in the Norfolk Regiment. btw there is also a 772 Private S Goffin in the same regiment. That is a very early number - possibly from the early 1880s.

In the 1st Battalion Lincolns there is 3038 Private F Goffin awarded Sudan Medal with clasp for “The Atbara”. This was a campaign of 1898. He was still serving with the 1st/Lincolns when the roll was compiled in India in May 1899.

#772 was Samuel Goffin. He is on the medal roll for India 1888 to 1890 receiving additional clasp(s) to his existing medal (with clasp for Burma 1887 to 1889).
