Thomas Burke, Irish lawn tennis professional and coach circa 1890
« on: Sunday 22 January 12 21:56 GMT (UK) »
This is probably needle-in-a-haystack stuff, but I’m looking for some biographical information on Thomas Burke, a professional lawn tennis player and coach from the late nineteenth century. He coached the great Irish player Joshua Pim at the Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club for a while circa 1890.

In later years Thomas Burke lived in France, where he was the coach at the Tennis Club de Paris before becoming, I think, the professional at the Nice Lawn Tennis Club. Two of his sons, Albert and Edmund, were also professionals. I don’t know anything about Thomas Burke’s wife.

Thomas and Burke are such common Irish names that it might not be possible to find out anything about him. I don’t even know what county he was born in. He probably died in France.

Any help would be appreciated.
