Locating a grave
« on: Sunday 22 January 12 22:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,
I am trying to find the graves of my GG Grandparents. I have looked on the kerrycoco online records but found nothing.
My GG Grandfather' details are: Died on 23rd August 1892 at Dicksgrove [a townland in the Civil Parish of Dysert], William Glover, an 83-year-old married stone mason who died of uncertified senile decay
GG Grandmother was Gobnait Glover (nee Brosnan ) died 10 July 1897 in the parish of Ranalough. I've physically searched the Ranalough graveyards without success. I was in Kerry for the weekend and searched the Dysert graveyard only to find I was in the wrong Dysert. I was in Lixnaw and not Castleisland !
Any ideas please ?

This website might help but I think this the one you looked at already :(

http://kerrylaburials.ie/en/Index.aspx

Even though I cant see any matches for your Glover's.

I have found that most headstones around 1890's will not have survived or they may never have had a headstone. Their grave may exist but be filled with later generations of the family.

Thanks Castlemcauliffe,
I've checked that site and you are right, no sign of the Glovers. I'll have to keep searching.
Many thanks

No Rathmore, according to his death cert he died at home. I've tried to attach a copy of it but the file is too big. I will try and resize and post it.
Thanks
Jan.

Checked Dysert graveyard Castleisland today and no headstone for Glover. Brosnans yes. a few are unreadable. Glover is not alocal name. Stone masons would usually rent some land to provide supplementary income. Tithe books might show the name. extend the search to Cork and Limerick border areas which provided an influx of population after the Napoleonic wars. Usually Stone masons left their work as their monument.

Thanks everyone,
Rathmore, I wouldn't mind staking a claim to the house on landedestates.com ! I have tried to link my Glover line to those Glovers but I cannot see where they might fit in. Dulaigh, thanks a million for checking the graveyard for me. Glover is certainly not a Kerry name and I would LOVE to find out where they came from originally. There was a cluster of Glovers living in Killeentierna in the 1830s and I have extracted as much information as possible from the parish registers.
3 May 1833.   Baptism: Wm Glover was Godfather to Elizabeth Barry.
9 Aug 1834  Baptism: Maria Glover was Godmother to Tim Moynihan
6 Feb 1837. Marriage: William Glover & Gobnait Brosnan (My GG Grandparents)                                    Witnesses - John Sullivan and Thade  Danihy
12 April 1838  Baptism: George Glover was Godfather to Daniel Wren
20 Sept 1838 Baptism: Wm Glover was Godfather to Francis McDonnell
OCM Volume 3 , Page 488
15 Feb 1848 Marriage of  Mary Glover and Edmond Moriarty
The bride was listed as 20 years of age. Bride's father was Walter Glover (soldier)
I reckon that Walter is the clue to my past.

It's interesting that you suggest extending my search to Limerick and Cork. I found a birth on Irishgenealogy of Walter Glover in 1822 in Castletownbere. Parents were Walter Glover and Catherine Sullivan.  And that is where I am stuck !! Walter Snr could be my GG Grandfather's brother ?? I thought if I found a headstone there might be a mention of their origins. Clutching at straws at this stage, any ideas would be much appreciated.

So they were local dependables; all those godparents. Some must have been their cousins/in-laws. Suggests Wm G may be 2nd generation. Suggest you peruse Griffiths in case of land rental records. The marriage of Mary G was in the middle of the famine times. Unless they were emigrating they were probably renting land .Potato labourers didn't survive long then.
