*A* records that cause reporting irregularities
« on: Monday 23 January 12 01:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi Chatters

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, but a mod can move it if there is a better spot. ;)

I have a tree in *A* and download it to FTM in order to prepare descendants reports. I have three questions.

How does one denote the parentage of an illegitimate child (when the father is known) without the record showing up with the indication that the parents were married when the descendants report is prepared?

I've used the Divorce option to denote marriages that came to an end, however this information doesn't show in the descendant report. How do I make that appear?

When a couple has no children, how does one indicate that without putting "No children" in the spot for a child's name which causes the descendants report to indicate: X Surname & Y had the following children: No Children Surname?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

Hi,

Which FTM do you use?  In FTM 2012 I have just had a look in the person 'view' and then clicked on someone I have as a spouse and then on the right hand side I can choose what relationship I want to allocate to the couple.  You may need to click the relationship button which is in the middle at the top first if to show the bit you click for the drop down menu.

If you set whether the child is the biological child of whichever parent this is then reflected in the report.

When you set up the report and you are choosing which individuals to include you can choose which facts to include at that point - eg baptism, probate, divorce etc.

I can't remember whether this was the same in my old version of FTM though - sorry.

Liz

I don't know if *A* has recently changed this function or if I missed it before. I tripped over a solution quite by accident. In the event that others encounter the same challenge in *A*, here is an option.

Open the Edit function for the male parent of the illegitimate child. Click on the  Relationship tab at the top of the page. Where the mother of the illegitimate child is denoted by "Spouse" it will be followed by a live link that says "Change". Click "Change" & you will see options for recording the person as something other than spouse.
