All men of a certain age were required to fill out draft registration cards.  It does not mean that they joined or ever served in the military.

They appear to be in Albany, New York for the 1930 Census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X741-8ZC
811 Washington Ave., Albany

Paterson, Alexander, head, rents home for $65, owns radio set, male, white, age 53, married, age at 1st marriage - 26, b. Scotland, parents b. Scotland, immigrated 1914, naturalized, occupation - dyer clean - 432 Central, not a veteran

wife Rebecca, white, age 54, married, age at 1st marriage - 21, b. Scotland, parents b. Scotland, immigrated 1914, naturalized, no occupation

son John, age 25, single, b. Scotland, parents b. Scotland, immigrated 1914, naturalized, occupation - dyer clean - 432 Central, not a veteran

brother Charles, male, white, married, age 32, married, age at 1st marriage - 22, b. Scotland, parents b. Scotland, immigrated 1922, occupation - dyer clean - 432 Central, not a veteran

I found a passport application for Rebecca from 1923, which contains a picture of her.  They were living in Rochester at that time.  Rebecca was born 14 Jan. 1876.  She was planning to go to Scotland to visit relatives.

If you send me your e-mail address in a PM, I can send the passport application to you.

When Rebecca sailed to the US in 1914, she was with children Elizabeth, age 17;  John, age 10;  and Mary, age 8.

The daughters are with them in Rochester on the 1920 Census.  They were still living at 124 Comfort St.

1920 Census
Paterson, Alexander, head, rents home, male, white, age 43, married, immigrated 1914, papers filed for naturalization, able to read & write, b. Scotland, parents b. Scotland, occupation - dyer

wife Rebecca, female, white, age 43, married, immigrated 1914, alien, able to read & write, b. Scotland, parents b. Scotland, no occupation

daughter Elizabeth,  female, white, age 22, single, immigrated 1914, alien, not attending school, able to read & write, b. Scotland, parents b. Scotland, occupation - clerk, dyer work

son John, male, white, age 15, single, immigrated 1914, alien, attending school, able to read & write, b. Scotland, parents b. Scotland, no occupation

daughter Mary, white, age 13, single, immigrated 1914, alien, attending school, able to read & write, b. Scotland, parents b. Scotland, no occupation

If you can get exact birth dates for the children, it might help to find them.

The Social Security Death Index (available free on www.familysearch.org) has Rebecca Paterson born 4 Jan. 1976 and died Aug. 1970.  Her last residence was Rochester, New York.

There appear to be obituaries listed for Rebecca Paterson in the Monroe County library's index here:  http://www3.libraryweb.org/liferecords/  It looks like they charge $15 to get a look at them, though.

The brother Charles was sailing back to New York on the SS Cameronia arriving 2 Oct. 1922.  His wife is listed as Jeanie Paterson in Paisley, and he was going to join brother Alexander.  It says that Charles planned to stay permanently in the US.
