Searching for Swiss Ancestors
« on: Wednesday 25 January 12 22:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone

I am looking for my ancestors from switzerland, who I think died there as well. Has anyone got any ideas how I can access swiss records?

Their names are Jean Frederic Pfisterer and Anna Frey. I think Jean was born in 1845. I really need some confirmation that these are my ancestors you see.

Thank you

is there any record of who Anna Frey married then? My source seems very sure that it was her name and she married Jean Pfisterer. I know their 3 sons(ronald, paul an charles) and their daughter(louise) were born in switzerland. Paul is my direct ancestor too. Paul Antoine Pfisterer. Born in 1885 and on the census for this country says he was born in "Neuchatel (Neuchâtel), Switzerland".

Also, im not sure where my source got this information about Anna Frey and Jean Pfisterer but it says Anna was born in 1840 and Jean in 1845 in switzerland. Now that I have that information, I was wondering if you can have another look please?

Paul was born 1885 (if Anna was born 1840 , this would make her 45 at Pauls birth ? ).
might I suggest you go to
www.familysearch.org
Anna Frey
click marriage - then in the box where it says "place " just put
switzerland  and for the year put 1856 -1885
and see what comes up

I have just done that...
page 4 , right at the bottom
A. Maria FREI  20th October 1862 to Jakob Anton Pfaester
Evangalish
Aawangen
Thurgau
Switzerland
I have only looked at 4 pages -
Jean Frederic Pfisterer may be Jakob Anton Pfaester - and when family came to England his name was slightly mistranscribed ??? unlikely I know ,but it`s the closest surname ....Pfisterer - Pfaester

what`s your view - or anyone else who may like to comment

I very much doubt it's the same man - one name might be mistranscribed, but all three seems unikely to me...    :-\

Do you have Paul Antoine's marriage cert which gives his father as Jean Frédéric?  I see from FreeBMD that Paul kept the French spelling of Antoine, which would support his birth in Neuchâtel, a French-speaking region of Switzrland.

Pfisterer isn't a local surname for Neuchâtel, but failing all else I'll see what I can find next time I go to the archives there - not before the school holidays, though, so don't hold your breath!
