The Deauvilles
« on: Sunday 29 January 12 21:54 GMT (UK) »
Hello there.  While searching for the marriage of Sarah ann Higgins, born in Manchester in 1845, i came across her marriage on Lancashire bmd to one William Deauville in 1865.
My problem is the Deauville,s do not appear anywhere else.  they are not on any of the census,s nor on any of the other fam history sites.   Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.

If you look at the original, hand-written, GRO index William appears alphabetically after Dumphy and before Dunbar! ;D

Looks more like Dumville? See attached snippet.

Which leads to this in 1871:

I noted that in the 1871 census Thomas was 12 years old so I took a look at the 1861
RG9/2968/77/23
William DuNville 29 married Labourer Metterley? Cheshire
Sarah wife 25 cotton weaver Manchester
Thomas 2 Bradford
John 2 months Bradford.

There is a marriage on FreeBMD June 1/4 1858 vol 8d page 705
on same page
William Dumville
Sarah Ecclestone
Sarah Smith

So did William marry a Sarah, she died, then he married another Sarah?
Or are there two William Dumvilles with a son Thomas born 1859?
Will do a bit of checking.

I think there must be two Williams; if he says he is 19 on his marriage in 1865, he's unikely to put age 39 in 1871.

Wonder if this is him, at Eltoft St in 1871

William Dumvill age 25, iron moulder
Sarah A age 24
William, 2
Amelia, 4
Edward, 2 months

That looks good BarbaraH but now I can't see him on the 1861! He doesn't help by not naming his father on marriage cert either.
