I have a Bridget Gavin dob? she married in 1882 to David Conniss    I do not have her Parents names or any of her siblings I know she came from the Clifden area and in1857 lived in Oughterard where David died she then married Martin Cannon . Is this the same family ? :-\

Hi Lynda

The free index of rootsireland shows the marriage of David Cunniss and Bridget Gavin in 1882.

It might be worth purchasing the transcription from them to see if you can get a lead.

I can't find the marriage on familysearch so it may not have been registered for some reason.

Tara

hi just read your post about the Gavin family outside Clifden and might have more info that  might be of  intrest to you.  Patrick Gavins father was a Festus Gavin from Goulane,a townland 2 miles east of Clifden.  Festus had two brothers, John & Pat Gavin.Their father i am led to believe was a John Gavin,a stonemason who came to the Clifden area from Tipperary working with the Bianconi horse cars . I have more details of these other two Gavin families. The Bridget Gavin that you mention living in Glenbricken is a daughter of a John Gavin/Anne Hanlon  living in Ho. no 12 Goulane West,Derrylea,Clifden census 1911. The James Gavin aged 2 in 1911 is my wifes father. If this is of use or you need more ,let us know, slan

Hi thankyou for your reply .
I hope my Bridget Gavin is the same as the Bridget you have mentioned. I have very little info on her and i am finding it difficult in my search for her.
This is all I have on her.
Bridget Gavin dob? she Married David Conniss dob 1857 -1894, they Married in 1882 David was buried in Oughterard Parish so I have assumed they lived there . I have found their Children on the Irish 1909 census Bridget had died and they where living with their Step Father Martin Cannon. I do not know when she married Martin only that it was between 1894-1901, In 1909 they where living in Townland of Rusheenduff if that is of any help to you . I have found Bridget on her Son Edward AJ Conniss Marriage cert she is recorded only as Gavin no christian name ? why may be he did not know it, it also says David was a master shoemaker and so was Edward. I have been in touch via Ancestry with one of Bridget's Granddaughters but she new nothing about Bridget or David or any of their other Children .
I hope you can match my Bridget to yours it would be nice to learn more about her .She belongs to my Husbands side of the family and he knows nothing about her
Regards Lynda

Hello Linda,

You could try this site which Tara gave you earlier: http://galwaywest.rootsireland.ie/index.php
It is a subscription site and results can vary.
I have just tried the free index and find it quite confusing re Cunniss /Conniss but at one point it did indicate that there was the 1882 marriage.
You could try asking for a search at http://www.groireland.ie/ for the marriage certificate or get the death certificate for David. That wouldn't give you much information but hopefully some sort of area. Do you have any children's birth certificates - equally they may help to track the family.
It is strange that there seems to be no civil record noted for either of Bridget's marriages, nor is there a death. Do you have any details re Martin Cannon?

regards
heywood
