Kneesall - Furniss
« on: Monday 06 February 12 12:35 GMT (UK) »
Reference my request for Savage 17/3/11.
This has just been found on Newspaperarchives.
Mainwood House near Kneesall, on Dec. 1836 a Mrs Furniss aged 82, she was Aunt to the late Mr. Savage of Surfleet, Schoolmaster.

This could mean that her maiden name was Savage, or Phoebe's maiden name could be Furniss.

Could anyone please throw any light on the subject? thank you

Hello Barry,

Keep at it and hopefully in time the information will turn up  :D

I can't see anything else that can help at the moment but there is this other burial which you might like for future reference.

Burial at Kneesall
John Watson, 29th July 1818, aged 94 - abode Mainwoods

There are only 4 Watson burials at Kneesall, this one is the earliest and no suitable wife for John, maybe this John is Mary Furnis'  father.

Oct 1830 The Standard, is an article mentioning Mr E Savage schoolmaster of Surfleet. There is also a Police report about some of his students in 1825. I just put into the search on Gale " Savage Schoolmaster"

Hi larkspur,

The refernce to Tumult in Surfleet is John Savage, though he is supposed to have a middle name of Eugene, but this does not always come up.

Thank you anyway.

Hello All

Linked to the previous correspondence (all v useful thank you), I'm researching Martin Furniss (1801 - 1872) who was recorded as a farmer at Mainwood House Kneesall in the 1841 census and I think was probably the son of George Furniss (1750-1834) mentioned by earlier correspondents.

I think Martin was married to Harriet Slater(?) (only information I have on her is from 1841 census return) and Martin ended up as a  labourer in later census returns eg 1871 (did he lose the tenancy of Mainwood farm?).

Any more information on George and any information on Martin and Harriet gratefully received!

Thank you
