I'm trying to help a friend in Australia find her grandparents who lived at one time in Billesdon. This is what I have been told so far. Her grandparents were James Arthur Smith & Sarah Smith nee White they were married 1907 in Melton Mowbray their ages were recorded as James 24 & Sarah 23. James's father was John Smith deceased, Sarah's Father was James White (Showman). James & Sarah had the following children
James Arthur born 1905 married Molly Short- 1 son (2nd marriage Olive May Wathan)
William Henry born 1907 married Francis Williamson- 1 son 1 daughter
Violet born ?
Edith born ? married Idris Short- 2 daughters
Norah Margaret born 1922 married John Wathan Davies 1939- 1 daughter(me) 4 sons my friends mother was Nora
James Smith died in Billesdon in 1922 aged 43 his occupation was Travelling Showman, abode Temporary Yard Queens Head.
My friend says she thinks James Smith was born in Newcastle.
Once again (we all get this) the ages don't tally. 1907 he was 24 so c1883, when he died in 1922 he was 43 so c1879. If my maths are right.
