Broom - 1891 census
« on: Wednesday 08 February 12 21:31 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if someone could help me locate a Benjamin Broom on the 1891 census please?

I have him on the 1881, 1901 and 1911 census years, by which time he has married Alice (nee Winter) in 1893, and they are living in Zoar Row, Neath and Bankside, Neath.

Benjamin is born in 1873 in Neath (according to the census, but I can't find this birth entry/year).  His Parents are Thomas Broom & Fanny (nee Arnold*). *She died in 1889 and he remarried that year to Mary Ann Jones.

Benjamin appears to have gone into hiding onthe 1891 census - unless this is another diabolically transcribed entry ....

Any takers please ??  :)

Now having problems locating his Father - Thomas (born circa 1852, Neath) on the 1871 census (I have him on the 1881 & 1891 - see above).

What is it with this family ????????

don't think is the family that's the problem, it's more that they're young, unmarried men not living with family, probably living in lodgings. Then, as now, the group most likely to be left off the census. I'll have a little look.

How soon after the census do they marry and do you have the certs to show address at time of marriage? Or the address of the spouse as they may be in the same area?

1871 census has a family that appears to match at RG10/5430 folio 32 pg 26, but they're Broomham.

THANK YOU :D

I think they are BOTH right - I found that William, Eliza & family on the 1861 census, living at Green Court.  Thomas is on there, Jenkin & Rees hadn't been born then.

I had also checked the Broom births for 1873, and I picked up a John B Broom - and wondered if he was John Benjamin ..... nothing else fitted - so this confirms that entry too - Thank You :)

You may remember that some time ago I desperately tried to find a Florrie (Florence Nellie Davies) she married my Great Uncle, William Davies (in Merthyr) ...

I've still not been able to fit her into this family - but I know she was - SOME how.  In doing that, I hope to link her to the family she is living with on the 1901 and 1911 census - Thomas & Margaret Jenkins (Margaret is nee Nash), in Pentrebach - shown as a visitor, and then their Niece ...... (I found her again, quite by accident, while researching Thomas Jenkins' line .... maybe it's fate ??)

This is driving me around the bend - but I am determined to find the link ...
